Basement Office and Kitchen Renovation

Eve Construction completed a basement office renovation along with bespoke furniture then, not long after, completed Mike’s Kitchen renovation.

Mike G testimonial:

“Discussing recently the qualities a good builder should have with an old acquaintance as well as good communication skills, he suggested that though many builders may well be skilled, if they don’t supply good old fashion service, with honest advice, pricing, time-keeping with a non-arrogant and flexible attitude, it somehow doesn’t end happily.

Mark Evemy has all of these positive attributes and so much more.

I first met him about 20 years ago and knew his work to be of a very high standard, so thought of him this year when deciding to build a new kitchen extension, loft ladder, installation of a new wooden living room floor and a cellar conversion in my house in Bury St Edmunds.

From the outset he exhibited a totally professional approach, initially coming over to price the job and supplying me with detailed quotes for all aspects of the work he was about to do. This was in all cases fairly, accurately and reasonably priced and if I queried anything price wise, he was very open to discussion about how the cost were deduced and whether there were any ways of saving money.

Once the build started, Mark’s time keeping was impeccable arriving at my house without fail every day at 7.45 am having driven from Cambridge and his approach to communication involved total clarity with a meeting each morning describing what work he was about to do that day, plus a report on how work had gone the previous day.

He was able to see what I was trying to achieve look wise from my verbal and written descriptions without having to be told twice and I would go as far as to say has a creative gift for seeing how a project will look approaching that of a talented artist. Half way through my new kitchen installation we decided on a different layout which made a huge difference to the feel and look of the room and Mark completed this deviation from the plan confidently and successfully with no sense of it creating any difficulties for him.

Throughout the project, he was extremely patient, for instance when I suggested ideas that he knew were possibly not the best, allowed me to explore them first before finding out for myself that an alternative solution would work better.

He is also a great teacher – if there were aspects of the build I didn’t understand, for instance how a tiled wall would look, he would take me to see a physical example outside the house, so that I could learn for myself and then come to my own conclusions and decisions about how something would look.

His finishing skills were second to none, the house being left in as tidy a condition it could be each day given the type of work that had been going on and when the job was finished the entire house was spotlessly redecorated where need be and looked infinitely better than before he started.

For all small or large construction projects, I could not recommend Mark highly enough.”
